NewsgroupDirect Turns 10!

NewsgroupDirect opened for business in May 2004. The last 10 years have been an incredible experience for the entire NGD team. We’ve seen a lot of change in our industry. We’ve seen competitors come and go. But our fantastic customers have been there the whole time. We want to thank you for all of your support… without you we wouldn’t be having this celebration. Here’s to the next 10 years!

Exciting Usenet Infrastructure Updates

We’ve been working hard this year on several behind-the-scenes updates that will improve the usenet experience for all NGD customers. We’ve added additional capacity, a new server location, and improved our header retention.

Block Accounts are Now Shareable!

Big news for block usenet users. NewsgroupDirect block accounts are now shareable. You are free to share your block accounts with your friends and family, however you see fit. This has been our most requested feature and we’re excited to be able to launch it.

Features In Depth: Header Compression

Header compression is a method for vastly improving the download time for usenet headers. The are hundreds of thousands of newsgroups available on usenet. Some of those groups have millions of articles, which means millions of headers.

Usenet Retention Reaches 4 Years

Break out the champagne! NewsgroupDirect is proud to announce that our usenet retention just reached another milestone. We have no surpassed 4 YEARS of retention. Maybe we should start advertising retention in terms of years instead of days? We’re not stopping at 4 years, we’ll continue increasing retention every single day.

Usenet for File Backups

We’ve had a few users ask about using usenet for personal file backups (the process is known as uBackup) over the past year, so we thought it would be a good idea to provide a bit of an intro. It’s a different use for usenet, but one that works and should be considered if you need to backup your personal data. Uploading files to usenet doesn’t count against your monthly usage (at least with NewsgroupDirect), so it’s free and unlimited. Plus, with retention now effectively infinite you don’t have to worry about every losing your data.
