Also known as: A-News
The first Usenet software, written in 1979 by Steve Bellovin as shell scripts and rewritten in C by Stephen Daniel and Tom Truscott for the original Duke and UNC link. It stored each article as a file and assumed a network of a few dozen sites, with no separate index. Traffic outgrew it within two years, and B News replaced it in 1981. Purely historical.
