In My Humble Opinion, marking a statement as personal judgement rather than asserted fact. IMO drops the humble, and IMNSHO makes the modesty sarcastic. RFC 1855 recommended flagging opinion this way to keep disagreements from escalating in a medium carrying no tone of voice. One of the few Usenet-era abbreviations that passed intact into ordinary email, chat, and messaging use.
