Also known as: kill file, scorefile, bozo filter
A newsreader-side list of patterns, typically author addresses, subject strings, or message-ID references, whose matching articles are hidden before display. Named for the KILL files used by early readers, it put filtering in the reader's hands rather than the server's, so no administrator had to act. Modern newsreaders keep the feature under names like scoring or ignore lists, with weighted rules instead of a flat drop.
