The proportion of time a server accepts connections and serves articles normally, usually quoted at 99.9% or better. Outages show up in a client as connection refused or reset errors and stalled queues rather than as an error page. Multi-server setups double as insurance against downtime, since the downloader falls through to the backup while the primary is unreachable.
