The web archive and search interface for Usenet launched in 1995, which for the first time made articles findable and readable long past the retention window of any news server. Its existence changed posting behavior, since casual remarks became durable and searchable, and it popularized the X-No-Archive header. Google bought the archive in 2001 and rebuilt it as Google Groups.
