Interleaving replies point by point beneath the specific quoted lines they address, trimming everything else away. The style handled long articles containing several separate claims, since each response sat next to its subject. Attribution lines matter here, because several levels of quoting can otherwise obscure who wrote which paragraph. Interleaved replies remain standard on technical mailing lists and in code review.
