The volunteers who ran ballots for Big 8 newsgroup proposals through the 1990s, collecting mailed votes, screening forged or duplicate ballots, and publishing the tally. Their neutrality was what made a vote count meaningful on a network with no central authority. The body wound down and the Big-8 Management Board took over group creation in 2006, ending the voting era entirely.
